About Me

Welcome to The Mom at Law! I am Candace, a practicing attorney, working parents advocate, freelance writer, and proud mom. I have always loved writing–it’s one of the reasons I became an attorney–and I always dreamed of incorporating my personal writing into my professional life.

I graduated from law school in 2013 and was admitted to the state bar in 2014. I immediately began working as an associate attorney for a small, trailblazing law firm representing plaintiffs in employment discrimination matters.

Working for a small firm meant that I was immediately immersed in all elements of practice–co-chairing trials, attending depositions, and having tons of facetime with clients.

Although life as a new attorney was busy, my husband and I also felt it was the right time to start our family.

In March 2015, our son was born and quickly became the light of our lives. Balancing life as a working mom was a challenge, but it was made easier by the family-friendly policies at my firm.

Initially, I worked from home one day per week, then two, then three, then four…

Then, in the summer of 2017, I made the transition from full-time associate to of counsel with my firm. I now work from home exclusively, living what I believe is the best of both worlds (for me). I get to continue practicing law in an area that I am passionate about, and I get to spend my days with the little guy who lights up my world.

I began dabbling as a freelance writer in early 2016, writing primarily about the joys and challenges of motherhood.

While life as an attorney and mom is always hectic, the pull to “do more” with my writing was strong. After making the leap to “work at home mom,” I decided it was the perfect time to begin this journey. Thanks for coming along for the ride. I’m glad you’re here!
